US road trip and national park tools

Road Trip Desk: US road trip and national park tools

Free tools for planning a US road trip: national parks, entrance fees and passes, campgrounds, gas and trip costs, printable maps and checklists.

Plan a US road trip with published data

The tools on this site answer the practical questions of a road trip in the United States with the numbers that official sources publish. The national parks map and list show all 63 national parks and the 474 sites the National Park Service manages; the fee table and the pass calculators use the entrance fees the parks publish, including the $100 fee that non-US residents aged 16 and older pay at 11 parks, and the America the Beautiful pass prices. The gas cost and road trip cost calculators start from the U.S. Energy Information Administration’s weekly average price for your state. The campground finders search the 4,834 federal campgrounds listed on Recreation.gov, and the historic place tools search the National Register of Historic Places.

Every figure that can change carries its date and a link to its source, and every result is calculated in your browser: nothing you type, and not your location, is sent to us.

Printables you can use freely

The printable US maps, the blank map with a numbered quiz, the national parks checklist, the camping checklist, the road trip packing list and the itinerary template print on Letter or A4 paper or save as PDF. What you make with them is yours to use, including in a classroom or in products you sell.
